Eggcellent Intentions
Every year, we decorate Easter eggs.
And every year, it’s fun—but kind of chaotic. The dye spills. The kids argue over colors. Someone drops an egg. You know the drill. 🐣
But a few years ago, we tried something a little different—and it turned out to be one of the most meaningful activities we’ve tried.
Instead of just decorating eggs for looks, we turned it into an intention-setting activity. Although to be fair they are pretty.
Each child was invited to simply paint or write a word, phrase, or symbol that meant something to them—something they wanted to carry into spring. Words like:
Kindness
Courage
Family
Try again
Breathe
Or even Be weird (my personal favorite from one of my kids 😂)
It wasn’t fancy. Just some paint, wooden eggs and some quiet music in the background.
And something about displaying their eggs meaning made everything feel calmer… more grounded. More connected. They were a constant reminder throughout the season.
We weren’t just decorating. We were reflecting. Laughing. Naming values. Setting simple, child-centered goals—without pressure.
Want to Try It with Your Kids?
I’ve created a simple printable Easter egg intention-setting worksheet you can download and use right away. If you aren’t feeling like running to the store for some wooden eggs, this will do the trick.
You can write or draw inside each egg, cut them out, hang them up—or just talk about them together.
💛 It’s totally free.
Bonus
If you’re looking for more hands-on, screen-free activities that help your kids build emotional awareness in fun, meaningful ways, I’ve also created a full Easter SEL pack for just $3.

Sometimes all it takes is a marker, an egg, and a question like:
“What do you want to carry with you into spring?”
I hope this simple activity brings just as much joy and connection to your home as it did to ours.
Happy Easter 💛
